KFI Tower Attempt #3

  • 1948: First tower built, 50,000 watts and 750 feet tall
  • December 2004: Small plane hits tower, knocking it to the ground. Pictures, story

  • August 2008: The final tower finally is erected at 684 feet tall.

  • The anchor that failed last time was completely redesigned. It has a lot more redundancy, and now three components would have to fail for it to come apart.

    The top of the tower is complete different too.

    The lighting has also changed, it's flashing white strobes during the day and standard red at night.

    The base still has the huge insulator and loop transformer (all 50,000 watts go through those rings)
