kallahar writes Before the Apollo program, there were many different space-related programs going on in the US. When Kenedy gave a specific mission, with a specific due date, all of these entities came together and grew to form NASA. NASA was able to complete the mission to the moon because everyone was working together toward a common goal. This is what is needed in our "Homeland Security" push. We need goals, we need direction, and most importantly we need deadlines. I heard a related thread on NPR.
